Anfang dieses Jahres folgte das Videoteam des Geocaching-Hauptquartiers einer Gruppe von mutigen Geocachern bei einem bisher einmaligen Unterfangen. Ihr ultimatives Ziel: den schwierigsten EarthCache der Welt zu finden. Das Video ihrer Reise ist jetzt fertig. Schau es Dir hier an.

EarthCaches sind aus einer Partnerschaft zwischen Geocaching.com und der Geologischen Gesellschaft der USA entstanden. Es gibt dabei keinen gegenständlichen Behälter. Dafür vermittelt der EarthCache Dir eine geowissenschaftliche Lektion. An den angegebenen Koordinaten müssen Fragen beantwortet werden, um einen Fund zu loggen.

CITO-Wochenende verlängert

Du hast jetzt zwei weitere Tage Zeit, um das CITO-Souvenir für 2015 zu erhalten. Zwischen Freitag, 24. April, und  Montag, 27. April, bekommst Du das Souvenir für die Teilnahme an einem CITO-Event.

Durch CITO (Cache In Trash Out) [Cache rein, Müll raus] erhalten Geocacher ihr Spielfeld, also die Erde, in einem großartigen Zustand. CITO-Events sind Treffen, bei denen Geocacher Müll und eingewanderte Arten entfernen, Wege bauen und Gebiete restaurieren.

Finde ein CITO-Event in Deiner Umgebung und logge Deine Teilnahmeabsicht.

Some celebrate milestones like First to Find or 100 Finds, and some are just cool, like an eagle whose wings actually flap (fly eagle, fly!).

12 years ago on September 30, 2001, Geocoins came into existence with a solid clunk in a geocache. Today more than 3 million Geocoins are proudly displayed in collections and found in geocaches around the world. There are even Geocoinfest Mega-Events held in Europe and the United States each year.

If you’re entering the realm of Geocoins, here are a few quick tips:

• Don’t forget to activate your Geocoin.
• Many Geocoins are meant to be admired and “Discovered,” while others are meant to travel.

Essentials for Your Geocaching Adventure

geocaching pack 1The great explorers who charted the globe knew a thing or two about being prepared. They crafted a checklist of essentials before they even thought about leaving homeport. You’re now among the newest generation of explorers, but your checklist still needs the same essentials and a few brilliant new innovations (like bug spray).

A geocaching adventure begins with a plan and then a backup plan. Make sure you tell someone where your journey is taking you, just in case you’re late returning.

Bring water, extra batteries, a cell phone, the correct clothes for the climate, and the aforementioned bug spray.

Now the fun begins. Get ready to pack your geocaching tools-of-the-trade. Some geocachers only pack their GPS or smartphone and a pen and call it good. But what about packing something Columbus could have only dreamt about, like a “Trackable Leatherman Micra Tool”? Or even an Ultra-Violet flashlight for deciphering geocache clues?
