Sneak preview: GIFF 2017

There are now 421 GIFF (Geocaching International Film Festival) events (and counting!) in 43 countries featuring 17 films. You’ll laugh, you’ll cry, you’ll earn a smiley, and the GIFF 2017 souvenir!

GIFF 2017 is November 2 – 6, 2017. Are you ready? Find a GIFF event near you and log your Will Attend! No events nearby? Try hosting! Just be sure to submit your events by October 19, 2017 so it has time to be published on Geocaching.com!

Caution: Geocacher in training

While “the largest outdoor treasure hunt” sounds simple enough, we can admit there is quite a learning curve to mastering the art of geocaching. That’s why we’re improving the onboarding experience for new geocachers with our latest Geocaching® app update.

These changes will not affect geocachers who have previously found and logged a cache, but will provide training to get new users up to speed with the game of geocaching, the app, and best practices while out in the field.

Real inspiration for Virtual Caches: part one

As we look forward to up to 4,000 new Virtual Caches to be published over the coming year, we’re sharing some fun, quirky, and downright cool caches that you can go out and find right now! After all, a Virtual Cache is all about discovering a location rather than a container.

Here’s a quick background on Virtual Caches for those who are new! The requirements for logging a Virtual Cache vary — you may be required to answer a question about the location, take a picture, complete a task, etc. In any case, you must visit the coordinates before you can post your log. Although many locations are interesting, a Virtual Cache should be out of the ordinary enough to warrant logging a visit.

Learn something new on International EarthCache Day

On Saturday, October 7 and Sunday, October 8, earn a new souvenir by learning about the Earth! All you have to do is go out and find an EarthCache during the weekend of International EarthCache Day 2017!

Finding an EarthCache is a great way to learn about the Earth. These geocaches do not have physical containers, but instead bring you to unique locations to teach you a geological science lesson.
