This week, the final souvenir of the Geocaching Road Trip ’15 will become available: Put on Your Thinking Cap. To earn this souvenir, and potentially the Road Trip Hero souvenir, you’ll have to find a Mystery Cache. While many geocachers automatically associate Mystery Caches with puzzles, that’s not always the case. This geocache, for instance, takes you on a nighttime journey through the woods. You’ll have to follow reflective tacks and shapes through the woods until you make it to GZ.

You can now earn your Let’s Get Extreme Geocaching Road Trip ’15 souvenir by finding a D5 or a T5 geocache. For this one, some geocachers automatically think of rock climbing, rappelling or some other adrenaline-inducing geocache as their go-to for this souvenir. But don’t forget the mind-bending puzzles that can also earn you this souvenir. For this geocache, you’ll not only have to answer a few questions to get the coordinates, you’ll also have to solve a Rubik’s Cube once you get there. Good luck!

What inspired this hide?
I’d purchased the treasure chest Rubik’s cube for my collection and noticed how nicely a bison Geocache container fitted inside! Thought this would be a great idea for a difficult puzzle cache and a few days later had the cache ready to go.

Did you know how to solve a Rubik’s Cube before working on this geocache?
Yes I did, I’ve got quite a large collection of twisty puzzles and enjoy speed solving some of them.

What has been your reaction to all of the positive logs and Favorite Points?
It’s nice to see this Geocache has introduced some of the cachers to the Rubik’s cube and encouraged some of them to learn how to solve it for the first time! It’s always nice to read through the positive logs and know that other people have enjoyed my cache.

Why this is the Geocache of the Week:

Geocaching takes us to some pretty interesting places. Sometimes it’s to the top of a mountain. Sometimes it’s to a spooky abandoned place. This geocache will take you on an adventure to a decommissioned Army base in Italy. The relics of communications equipment and buildings still remain and are open for exploration. Places like this can teach us about the history of a local area and also the history about what was happening in the world at the time.

This geocache is located on Mont Blanc, the highest point in Europe and one of the most popular alpine climbs on the continent.

Why this is the Geocache of the Week:

Discovering new places is one of the best parts of geocaching. For example, almost every city has hidden pockets of art—even Detroit. This geocache will take you to the Heidelberg Project. Wikipedia describes this neighborhood of art as, “an outdoor art project in Detroit, Michigan. It was created in 1986 by artist Tyree Guyton and his grandfather Sam Mackey (“Grandpa Sam”) as an outdoor art environment in the McDougall-Hunt neighborhood on the city’s east side, just north of the city’s historically African-American Black Bottom area.” Many people wouldn’t even know about this amazing area had it not been for this geocache.
