Geocaching in Space – The Interactive Event Map

WeeklyMailer_100713_GeocachingInSpace_vFINAL_blog (1)More than 1,100 Geocaching in Space Event Caches will dot the globe on November 6 and 7. Geocaching in Space events can be found in more than 40 countries and in the world’s most remote locations, like Easter Island and inside the Arctic Circle.

Each event commemorates the launch of a Geocaching Travel Bug® as it  journeys to the International Space Station. Astronaut Rick Mastracchio will use the Travel Bug as a tool to teach students back on Earth about geography and science. He’s scheduled to launch from Kazakhstan in the early morning of November 7, which will be November 6 in much of the rest of the world.

Find and attend an event near you by exploring the interactive map below. Get prepared by ordering the limited-edition Geocaching in Space Mission Patch. Proceeds from patch sales will benefit Donorschoose.org. More questions? Check out the Geocaching in Space FAQ. One quick note: The deadline to submit a Geocaching in Space event has passed. If you’re an event owner, check out the Geocaching in Space Event Owner’s Guide to the Galaxy on ways to connect with the global community, like using #SpaceCaching in Tweets and posts.

Great way to teach the kid sciance ang geography, and us old folks to.
    Be safe on your mission.

2 space events in our area are not showing up on the map. Does this mean that people attending those 2 events won’t get the souvenir?

  • Travis Smola

It says to check back in 24 hrs. They will probably keep adding events as they are published. My event that published a couple weeks ago is there, but another one less than 30 miles away that published a couple days ago is not yet.

We’ll be working on adding the final 100 events over the weekend. Thanks for your patience!

  • http://blog.geocaching.com Eric Schudiske

They’ll still receive the souvenir! We’re adding the final events in the next couple days. Thanks for your patience.

  • Cruiserdude

I’m having an event at St. Maarten on the 6th, it isn’t on the map.

  • http://blog.geocaching.com Eric Schudiske

Whew! Just finishing entering the last of the events, Capt. Hodge Wharf looks like a great place for an event. Enjoy, and stay in touch by tagging #SpaceCaching in pics/posts from your event!

Is it too late to schedule an event in my town?

  • http://blog.geocaching.com Eric Schudiske

Yeah. Hopefully, with 1,200 event around the world, there’s one close enough for you to attend.

  • AbesBabes

    Okay, thanks.

  • Mendes&Freitas

    Thank You Very Much :)

    Eric,
You are a busy man. Godspeed…
    Two questions.

    1) Are there really no events near the launch site? That doesn’t seem right, but perhaps it is the way it has to be.
    2) There is another event in UAE that isn’t showing up, in Al Ain… (as if you don’t have enough to do at the moment).

This is an amazing response to what is now routine near earth travel! I am very impressed with all that you’ve done on the site and across the global GeoCaching community. Bravo, sir.

    McStork,

    1) I know…I wish there was an event closer. I think it’s not just that there aren’t any Geocaching Events at the launch… I don’t think there are any people at the launch site. It’s middle of nowhere. There’s always a couple of events in Moscow to choose from

    2) The GC4RBZ8 event is now on the map. Thanks!
