Now it’s your turn to help select one of them as the Featured Geocacher of the Month for March.

Write a comment at the bottom of this blog about which of these geocachers you feel should be awarded the featured Geocacher of the Month title.

In February, Uncle Louwtjie, aka louwtjievdw, was named the Featured Geocacher of the Month. He’s known in the South African geocaching community as a creative geocache hider. He’s built a reputation as a geocacher who’s as quick to maintain his geocache hides as he is to make friends with new geocachers. He’s also known for friendly advice, leaving great logs on geocaches he’s found and having a cup of coffee ready for geocachers at his home.

Here are your nominees for the March featured Geocacher of the Month. Some testimonials have been edited for length.

moenk

moenk – nominee for Featured Geocacher of the Month

@mic nominated moenk who’s been geocaching since 2003. @mic says, “He (moenk) is the inventor of the very popular “Dönerstag“, an event which is celebrated in more than hundred locations worldwide on the same day. Furthermore, he created the biggest geocaching forum in Germany, Geoclub.de. And last but not least, he was producing a very famous podcast about geocaching called, “Cachetalk.” Another nominee wrote, “Moenk fosters the community towards a healthy growth, a responsible handling of nature and preserving the meaning and fun of geocaching. The Geocacher of the Month is a worthy reward for the energy, the
impetus and the style with which he supports the geocaching community.”

WVTim – nominee for Featured Geocacher of the Month

wallmeister22601 writes, “Tim is an outstanding geocacher who has inspired many a person with his unique and unusual geocaches. His caches are what inspired me to start hiding caches of my own and to continue geocaching.  His caches draw people from other states that come to his home state of West Virginia specifically to search for the wonderful and creative WVTim caches. He has the number one favorite physical traditional cache in the state of Virginia as well.

Tim is one of the most responsible geocache owners that I know. If any of his caches are in need of attention he will make it a point to repair them or replace them as quickly as he can. In short Tim in my opinion is a pillar of the geocaching community that inspires, encourages, educates and gives back so much.”

MallorcaClaudia writes, “They have placed a lot of geocaches in Majorca [including one featured as the Geocache of the Week with more than 350 favorite Points] and all of them are fantastic ones with special places, great views and nice trips. When I met them one year ago on a geocaching event I found out that they are also very friendly and nice people. They have given me a lot of advice on how to place geocaches and how to do the maintenance. For me they have become very good friends and for me the chrismaxx team is an idol.”

  1. WVTim is absolutely my vote. My husband and I have made special trips to find his caches and have never been let down. He is also incredibly kind. He is grateful for each and every one of the favorite points awarded to his caches, as evidenced in his kind email response when I favorited his clever “Evolution of the Rest Stop” cache. I know I’m not the only one impressed by his caches, his caches represente the most favorited in each of the Virginias! And if for no other reason, we discovered we are both alumni of Marshall University–though just a few years separate our degrees!

  2. WVTim. The kids and I are planning a trek out to WV this summer just to hit as many of his caches as we can before having to head back.

  3. A vote for WVTim. Not only does he have the most creative cache containers I have ever seen, he is one of the nicest cachers also. I have taken the trek from MD to WV when looking for a milestone cache more than once. He is the cacher I have given the most favorite points.

  4. I think Moenk more than deserved to be cacher of the month. The Dönerstag Events which he invented are great to meet other cachers and the idea is so good that these events are held in many different locations around the world. And Moenk has been a real Caching Enthusiast for years and set many impulses not only in Berlin’s caching scene!

  5. I definitely vote for WVTim! He is an incredible geocacher and person! I am so happy that in 2010, I met up with him while trying to recruit volunteers for our State geocaching series! Without him, we would have NEVER received permission to place a geocache inside a National Park. I have also had the privilege to complete some of his AMAZING hides! Wow! Creative, innovative, makes you want to come to West Virginia just to find his caches!
Anytime I need something, I can always count on WVTim to help out. He is a very giving person, which is pretty clear by how he educates people about geocaching, hosts great events, and loves this sport!
WVTim would make a great Geocacher of the Month!

  6. I vote for moenk. His Geoclub is one the most interesting forums I know and the “spoiler forum”, which was criticized by nabane is an interesting and helpful thing as geocaches are meant to be found and searched.

  7. WVTim! He has some of the move amazing, unique, and creative cachers I’ve ever experienced!

  8. WVTim, We have made several trips to WV just to hunt for his always fun and unique caches! From his puzzles to night caches we have never been disappointed!

  9. The vote from the Kapplers goes to Moenk especially for his effort to keep the “Grüne Hölle”-Forum alive

  10. I vote for WVTim. Tim embodies everything that is good about Geocaching. Let’s start with his amazing Geocaches! Each are thoroughly researched, well thought out, clever, well built, sometimes whimsical, and sometimes challenging but ALWAYS FUN! Those elements are what draws in new Geocachers who are inspired by his hides. His caches are most favorited in many states for a good reason. They are creative and inspirational. But don’t stop there, Tim is constantly helping others to expand, build, and challenge themselves to create their own amazing caches. Finally, as I focus less on finding Geocaches and focusing more on cool locations, creativity and people, it is meeting Geocachers like Tim that keeps me singing the praises of Geocaching. His energy, talent, and friendliness is just another example of why I love Geocachers and will go out of my way to help another. He gets my strongest recommendation for the Geocacher of the month. Good luck to all the candidates. ~Dayspring (Thinking outside the Ammo can since 2004!)

  11. I recently decided to take a vacation trip to Colonial Williamsburg. I wound up taking the long way around, through Pennsylvania and into West Virginia and Maryland, then driving across Virginia to Williamsburg? Why take such a circuitous route? Because I’d heard about WVTim’s caches from a friend and knew I wanted to experience them too. I was driving with someone who is not a cacher, but even she was charmed by the creativity and ingenuity of his caches. I was also impressed that I got a personal response from him after he read the logs I wrote for his caches. A couple of months ago, I came across a podcast that featured Tim. He spilled the beans on how he created two or three of his caches, which I thought was pretty special. Many people would want to keep their secrets and all the praise. But for Tim, it was all about helping other people create the kind of caches that make the experience of finding them memorable. To me, this all demonstrates why WVTim is deserving of being the Geocacher of the Month.

  12. My son who is nine (Nothereeither Jr.) and I just met WVTim about a month ago during a seminar he sponsored. The event was very informative. Not only did I learn more than I ever needed to help me become a better geocacher, but my son got all fired up by Tim to make some “special caches” just like Tim taught him how. After the seminar my son was so fired up that we spent the rest of the day in West Virginia doing WVTim caches. Tim’s imagination is incredible. I personally don’t like puzzle caches and neither does Tim. His challenging 4 and 5 difficulty caches test a cacher’s out-of-the-box thinking and don’t necessarily rely on “book learning.” My son solved one of Tim’s caches way before I did because unlike me, he had no preconceived notions on what the cache should be. It is clear that Tim is someone different; at the seminar there were representatives from the Chamber of Commerce and Visitors Bureau who were there because of Tim’s reputation to learn how to make Martinsburg, WV a geocacher’s mecca.

Go Tim for Geocacher of the Month, even if you’re from WV!

  13. WVTim would be my pick for the month. Not only does he place creative and enjoyable caches but he hosts educational events he holds to help cachers that have never searched for caches inside caves stressing safety above else. He is well know for his extreme Geocaching event held prior to taking cachers into his cave cache.

  14. Hello,

if that’s the intolerant moenk who has on
    another platform, which is
forbidden to be mentioned here, once
    left a thread going
on, I’m totally against it. By a
geocacher of the month I demand tolerance for others.

    I do vote against moenk

  15. I only know WV Tim, and his evil puzzle caches. Which were one reason why I went with a paid account. I wanted to see what all the hype was with his caches. Addictive and evil. And is always willing and available to help people solve his caches. So I’d vote for him. He also brings other cachers into the State, just for his caches. Which is great for local economy.

  16. WVTim! I’ve enjoyed every one of his caches that I’ve attempted. I only wish that I lived closer so that I could get them all! He’s a great hider, cache creator, maintainer and person.

  17. I vote for WVTim. I drove 300 miles just to do his library cache ann now I’m just shy of 1,100 finds and that cache remains my favorite find ever. But that isn’t the only one oh his I have found, Every single one of his caches are unique snd high quality. But more importantly for the title of Geocacher of the month, you have to look at WVTIM’s willingness to share how he made these incredible caches so that they can make similair caches of their own. I have asked for and recieved help from WVTim on several occasions while trying to make some similar caches as he puts out. WVTIM deserves to be Gepcacher of the month.

  18. Moenk, because his forum teached me a lot abot geocaching, more than groundspeakforums will ever do 😉

  19. WVTim receives our nomination. We are planning a trip to the USA coming up soon and emailed a few geocaches around the areas we will be going to a brief question or 2 to try and make the trip as smooth as possible and have a great geocaching time. While none of the other teams even bothered to reply to us, WVTims response has been nothing short of outstanding. With his warm hospitality and willingness to share his wealth of local knowledge with us, we have adjusted our holiday plans a bit and are certain that we will an enhanced geocaching holiday because of him.

So for an international ambassador for geocaching, WVTim has been great.

    Greetings from Australia

  20. WVTim is an outstanding geocacher. I’ve traveled the 4.5 hours to his area to find his caches numerous times. He was so generous as to actually load his GPSr for me once, mount it on his own bicycle, then shuttle me to the start of a 10 mile bike trail to grab his unique caches along that route. He brought his gear to take a friend and me through an underground cave to get his cache there. I’ve never seen a cacher more thorough about getting permission to hide a cache, maintaining a cache and also making sure that it is a unique and creative hide like no other. Every one of his hides is unique. As a finder, he always leaves detailed log entries. He also does not stay to just park and grabs. He is my kinda guy in that he likes the lonely caches and the extreme difficulty ones.

  21. I decide between moenk and WVTim. Both geocachers have good properties. But I like unusual and unique geocaches, therefore I give more preference to WVTim. In my country is a lot of lazy geocachers, who not care their geocaches. If all geocachers be as WVTim, we are prevent unnecessary archived geocaches. WVTim is my choice for Geocacher of the month.

  22. I do vote against moenk because he started a very impolite tread at an other platform. From a cacher of the month I expect at least a little tolerance for others.

  23. Chismaxx!! Wonderful caches on mallorca! Their caves and mountain routes are spectacular. He is a nice guy and so helpful with good advice. She is the carming soul of the team and a tough woman.
