Now it’s your turn to help select one of them as the Featured Geocacher of the Month for March.

Write a comment at the bottom of this blog about which of these geocachers you feel should be awarded the featured Geocacher of the Month title.

In February, Uncle Louwtjie, aka louwtjievdw, was named the Featured Geocacher of the Month. He’s known in the South African geocaching community as a creative geocache hider. He’s built a reputation as a geocacher who’s as quick to maintain his geocache hides as he is to make friends with new geocachers. He’s also known for friendly advice, leaving great logs on geocaches he’s found and having a cup of coffee ready for geocachers at his home.

Here are your nominees for the March featured Geocacher of the Month. Some testimonials have been edited for length.

moenk

moenk – nominee for Featured Geocacher of the Month

@mic nominated moenk who’s been geocaching since 2003. @mic says, “He (moenk) is the inventor of the very popular “Dönerstag“, an event which is celebrated in more than hundred locations worldwide on the same day. Furthermore, he created the biggest geocaching forum in Germany, Geoclub.de. And last but not least, he was producing a very famous podcast about geocaching called, “Cachetalk.” Another nominee wrote, “Moenk fosters the community towards a healthy growth, a responsible handling of nature and preserving the meaning and fun of geocaching. The Geocacher of the Month is a worthy reward for the energy, the
impetus and the style with which he supports the geocaching community.”

WVTim – nominee for Featured Geocacher of the Month

wallmeister22601 writes, “Tim is an outstanding geocacher who has inspired many a person with his unique and unusual geocaches. His caches are what inspired me to start hiding caches of my own and to continue geocaching.  His caches draw people from other states that come to his home state of West Virginia specifically to search for the wonderful and creative WVTim caches. He has the number one favorite physical traditional cache in the state of Virginia as well.

Tim is one of the most responsible geocache owners that I know. If any of his caches are in need of attention he will make it a point to repair them or replace them as quickly as he can. In short Tim in my opinion is a pillar of the geocaching community that inspires, encourages, educates and gives back so much.”

MallorcaClaudia writes, “They have placed a lot of geocaches in Majorca [including one featured as the Geocache of the Week with more than 350 favorite Points] and all of them are fantastic ones with special places, great views and nice trips. When I met them one year ago on a geocaching event I found out that they are also very friendly and nice people. They have given me a lot of advice on how to place geocaches and how to do the maintenance. For me they have become very good friends and for me the chrismaxx team is an idol.”

Once we have received all of the nominations, we will choose the top candidates and post them on the blog. You will then get a chance to champion your favorite. Our goal is to involve the entire geocaching community in this process so we might learn from each other.

  1. WVTim is my choice. We have more than once been caching in WV just to get some of his great caches, the last cache we found was his now famous mousetrap or cacher trap.

  2. When I see a new cache pop up and the owner of the cache is WVTim I know that I am going to see something special. He makes many of the containers that he uses. I love his birdhouse caches. Each one is different and you have to figure out how to open each one. They are always a challenge. I can only imagine the time that he puts into making each container. His ideas for his caches are among the most creative that I have seen.

Another thing that impresses me about Tim is his dedication to geocaching. Most of us in caching just do our own thing. Tim encourages others to get into caching. He holds information and training workshops for beginners and brings in some of the top cachers in the area to help others.

There is not a better person that I can thing of that deserves Geocacher of the Month than Tim.

  3. My vote is for WVTim. He introduced not only me but my family to geocaching. Having 20, 10, and 7 year old daughters it is hard to find something we can all enjoy but geocaching is one of those things. Geocaching gives us an extra “treat” when we go camping or when we visit a new area.
I have also been able to teach my coworkers about geocaching when traveling to different parts of the country. it gives us a reason to explore the city we are in and gets us out of the hotel. None of this would have been possible without WVTim introducing me to geocaching.

  4. WVTim does a lot for the Geocaching community, holding learning events for begiiners and traveling to schools to talk with others about geocaching. He has my vote.

  5. Sammydogs vote for WVTim. He makes the most unique, clever caches and helps you if you get stuck on one. We have only found “The Library” and it was great. We live in PA and plan to go to WV to eventually get all his caches.

  6. WVTim. I couldn’t know the other cachers. But everybody in the mid-Atlantic knows WVTim. His caches are famous throughout VA, PA, MD, DE and OH. People drive hours and hundreds of miles to find his caches. His work in the community is a true example for us all. A humble guy, he is always will to help a finder out and give a hint. There couldn’t be a better example for the greater geocaching community.

  7. Hi, my vote goes to moenk ’cause he invented Döners Tag and because of his work for the german geocacher community…

  8. I Vote for Moenk, Due to his large community, he ties in many geocachers. He offers a great platform for communication and is an involved member in the geocaching community, without him geocaching wouldn’t be the same.

  9. It doesn’t seem necessary, but WVTim. Whenever we travel alongrte 81 from PA to NC or back, we keep an eye out for his caches.

  10. I vote for moenk because of the great work that he has been doing for the geocaching community for almost 10 years now.

  11. I vote for WVTim.People like WVTim makes geocaching for this, what it is! Great choise!

  12. Chrismaxx ist für mich der Favorit.
Seine Caches auf Mallorca sind sensationell.
Chrismaxx ist für mich Cacher of the month.

  13. WVTIM is an incredible cacher. He has hosted events to teach new caches the sport/hobby/game, he helps rookie caches with tips and tricks on hiding and finding caches. Even advanced cachers can learn from him. His caches are unique, many hours go in to the design of them so people can enjoy them. One of my familes favorite ones is Cave (GC2MD1H). My daughters and I enjoyed a day crawling through a cave to find a geocache. It was an awesome experience that we’ll always remember.

  14. Although I don’t know him personally I vote for WVTim: scrolling through his GC profile and reading about his vast variety of Geocaching activities, he seems to be the right person for this award.

  15. WVTim is amazing! He wants his caches to be found and will always take the time to help you figure out how one of his creations work. His creativity always brings a big smile to my face just approaching one of his caches. You know you are in for an adventure. I’ve seen caches placed by other cachers that are inspired by WVTims creations. He is a true inspiration to all.
A vote for WVTim is an easy choice.

  16. I vote for moenk. His Forum, the so calles “Green Hell”, is a very important service and a central meeting point for the german geocaching-community. He offers an independent platform for information and discussion wich allows even critical points of view and supports a positiv developement of geocaching. I liked his podcasts, too – and I know him personally from some events in his former home-town Oldenburg.

  17. WVTim truly embodies the spirit of geocaching. He places unique hides/containers in fabulous locations which draw cachers from hours away to see what his latest hide is. Sure his hides have lots of favorite points and are repeatedly ranked as the top favorites in several states. But WVTim doesn’t do it for the ‘glory’. He truly loves our game and goes above and beyond to share it with others… from newbies to caching veterans. And just when the veterans think they’ve seen it all or done it all… he comes up with something new. WVTim has found a unique approach to changing up the game without resorting to nasty, brain-twisting puzzles that leave cachers more frustrated than satisfied. I have yet to see a cacher talk about a WVTim cache without smiling… and isn’t THAT what it’s truly all about?

  18. WVTIm is absolutely our choice as well. He has given, and continues to give so much of himself to the geocaching community. Many of his geocaches are over the top in both quality and complexity. A quick check on his caches reveals over 1,000 favorite points on just his top 8 caches alone – and most of those are less than 2 years old! His currently owned geocaches total 195 and growing. However we feel Tim’s greatest contributions are the events and seminars that he hosts. For the past 5 years Tim has been hosting geocaching seminars for geocachers. From beginners to experienced cachers, his seminars offer something for everyone. His latest seminar attracted over 125 cachers from all over the region, many travelling over 100 miles to have the opportunity to attend this outstanding event. For all of you travelling through eastern West Virginia, plan to stop in Martinsburg, and experience his caches for yourselves – they are a real treat indeed.

  19. Definitely casting my vote for WVTim! He has some great caches and a pretty awesome YouTube channel (gadgetcaches) as well!

  20. I vote for chrismaxx. A small island in the Mediterranean sea. But great cave locations, other beautiful places and events. Great maintenance and an always helpful owner. A lot of the cache descriptions are written in two or three languages (English – German – Spanish), which is very helpful for all cachers on the island and visitors. The cache hikes are: adventure, views, adrenaline and fun. Many thanks to chrismaxx.

  21. WVTim……handsdown….he has inspired my to be more creative with my own placements!

  22. chrismaxx is the cacher of the month for me. inspired me to start with geocaching and tell it to a lot of friends. we are all big fans of chrismaxx and the island of majorca. we are creating our holidays and hikes with the chrismaxx routes.

  23. I vote for Chrismaxx. All there 60-70 caches on Mallorca are so great! Two of there caches were “Geocaches of the week” here in this blog (one with over 360 FavPoints). Search for “chrismaxx.

  24. WVTim will get my vote. I have traveled to WV from Ohio and found WVTim most helpful to me as I needed a little nudge. He had never met me but that did not stop him from sharing his love of geocaching through his readiness to offer to meet us at a cache site if the nudging was not enough. What a remarkable giving person.
