Now it’s your turn to help select one of them as the Featured Geocacher of the Month for March.

Write a comment at the bottom of this blog about which of these geocachers you feel should be awarded the featured Geocacher of the Month title.

In February, Uncle Louwtjie, aka louwtjievdw, was named the Featured Geocacher of the Month. He’s known in the South African geocaching community as a creative geocache hider. He’s built a reputation as a geocacher who’s as quick to maintain his geocache hides as he is to make friends with new geocachers. He’s also known for friendly advice, leaving great logs on geocaches he’s found and having a cup of coffee ready for geocachers at his home.

Here are your nominees for the March featured Geocacher of the Month. Some testimonials have been edited for length.

moenk – nominee for Featured Geocacher of the Month

@mic nominated moenk who’s been geocaching since 2003. @mic says, “He (moenk) is the inventor of the very popular “Dönerstag“, an event which is celebrated in more than hundred locations worldwide on the same day. Furthermore, he created the biggest geocaching forum in Germany, Geoclub.de. And last but not least, he was producing a very famous podcast about geocaching called, “Cachetalk.” Another nominee wrote, “Moenk fosters the community towards a healthy growth, a responsible handling of nature and preserving the meaning and fun of geocaching. The Geocacher of the Month is a worthy reward for the energy, the
impetus and the style with which he supports the geocaching community.”

WVTim – nominee for Featured Geocacher of the Month

wallmeister22601 writes, “Tim is an outstanding geocacher who has inspired many a person with his unique and unusual geocaches. His caches are what inspired me to start hiding caches of my own and to continue geocaching.  His caches draw people from other states that come to his home state of West Virginia specifically to search for the wonderful and creative WVTim caches. He has the number one favorite physical traditional cache in the state of Virginia as well.

Tim is one of the most responsible geocache owners that I know. If any of his caches are in need of attention he will make it a point to repair them or replace them as quickly as he can. In short Tim in my opinion is a pillar of the geocaching community that inspires, encourages, educates and gives back so much.”

MallorcaClaudia writes, “They have placed a lot of geocaches in Majorca [including one featured as the Geocache of the Week with more than 350 favorite Points] and all of them are fantastic ones with special places, great views and nice trips. When I met them one year ago on a geocaching event I found out that they are also very friendly and nice people. They have given me a lot of advice on how to place geocaches and how to do the maintenance. For me they have become very good friends and for me the chrismaxx team is an idol.”

  1. Two thumbs up for my friend WVTim. This is so exciting. I can see Marsha (WVGrammy) smiling. obxgeek sums it well below.

  2. Unfortunately, I don’t know the other cachers in the running for this month, but I do know WVTim, and have really enjoyed the caches he’s put out, and I’ve been fortunate enough to attend a few of the great events he’s held. He gets my vote!

  3. WV Tim puts the fun in Geocaching. His hides are well thought out and he is always ready with a hint. He holds a Geocaching Seminar every year to inform new cachers and makes it fun.

  4. Hands down, WVTim! Besides the fact he hosts great educational events, has the best caches in town, and teaches geocaching(how to create great cache containers and find them), He also is a wonderful person! He befriends all he meets!

  5. 2000 Favorites! And it isn’t just his caches – WVTim and WVGrammy are just great nice people!

  6. Oh I must vote for WVTIM !!! I live in WV and have heard about his caches for the 8000 prior finds. Finally I stumbled far enough into his turf to discover the most amazing find of them all. I had to use a phone a friend to him to hint me through it and I have to say that I am totally geo crushing on WVTIM now ! I cant say enough about the time and creativity that went into the most elaborate cache hide I have ever seen. If the other two nominees could find one of his caches they would have to vote for him as well 🙂 I dont know him in real life but look forward to meeting him in my part of WV at our MEGA Hatfield McCoy Geotrail event in August. I wear the hat proudly of GEOCACHER OF THE MONTH for Aug 2012 and if he were running against me that month I would have had to vote for him !!!
(Good luck WVTIM, from a not secret admirer)

  7. WVTim is my vote – I have been geocaching for one year this month, I have geocached mostly in 4 states, Delaware, Maryland, Virginia, and West Virginia; by far my best experiences have been in West Virginia attempting WVTim’s caches, I say attempting, because some are very challenging & thought provoking and sometimes takes sometime to sign the log. They are very inventive, unique and exciting and makes it worth the 2 hour drive from my home. I have attended one of his seminars and he willing shared his philosophy on great caches and explained where he got some of his ideas from; He also shared how to interact with other cachers around the world to share caching ideas and to put out different caches not seen in our area to further the joy of geocaching. He is one of the most selfless people I have met in geocaching.

  8. WVTIM….unless the other cachers nominated saved a life by using their GPS as a defibrillator to shock somebodies heart back into rhythm. Then I vote for them.

WVTIM…the list goes on about his positive attributes to the sport and to the community where he lives.

WVTIM…..CO for 6 of the TOP 10 caches in WV

WVTIM…..CO for the TOP cache in VA

WVTIM….CO for #10 cache in MD

WVTIM….resuscitated geocaching into a legitimate sport in Martinsburg that once banned geocaching!!!

WVTIM….Conducts seminars on not only creative caching but responsible cache placement and ownership.

WVTIM….The Chamber of Commerce in the counties in and surrounding Martinsburg should award him a medal for the tourist dollars he brings every year into that town. WVTIM caches are the talk of all of WV, VA and MD and beyond.

  9. My vote is for WVTim! He has the most creative caches, a great personality, and came close to death and still continues to cache and help others have a great time. If you’ve never done a WVTim cache, I highly suggest you do!

  10. I would hands down give WVTim my vote! He is so creative, genuinely nice, super helpful, and just and all around good man. Do yourself a favor and go visit one of his many caches in either WV or MD. You won’t be disappointed and you will have a blast doing one of his many caches. He has so many favorite points given by me.

  11. This man was even in a horrible bike accident and he came back stronger than ever to help other people cache and have a great time.

  12. Moenk gets my vote this month. It looks like he has done a lot for his geocaching community and works hard to spread the positive word about our sport.

  13. I vote for moenk, too.
Maybe this is a reason for a comeback of his great podcast, that I’m missing.

  14. I vote for moenk!
He is one of the most interesting and nicest geocacher I know.

  15. moenk because he make a lot for the geocacher spezialy for german speaking one ! MOENK +1

  16. I vote for moenk for many years of dedication to the geocaching community.
    Thanks you!

  17. As a german Cacher i think i habe to vote for moenk, beavauae i like the doenerstag and the green hell forum, but…
I really enjoyed all caches i searches from Chrismaxx on mallorca, the are great, some of the nest i found!

So the winner has to be Chrismaxx!

  18. I vote for WVTim.

I have only found one of his caches so far. (If I lived closer I’d have them all) I found that cache with three other cachers. It took us quite a while to figure the hide out and we all left scratching our heads trying to figure out how he did it.

In about a month I’m headed down to his neck of the woods from NE Ohio to attend an event about spelunking. I have never been so excited about an event before! My wishlist of caches I would like to get while near the event contain another 21 of his hides!

Pulling up his profile, the number of accumulated favorite points from his caches is amazing and should show the care and creativity that WVTim puts into his caches!

  19. Stop thinking about who you are voting for and pick WVTim. If you want cache hides he at the top of the list. He has 7 of West Virginia’s Top 10 Favorited caches (#1,2,3,5, 8,9,10), which is saying a lot since WV is also home to the Hatfield & McCoy Trail and past winner Wendy (whbaisden). He also has the #1 cache in Virginia and the #10 cache in Maryland.

  20. Although we live hundreds of miles from WVTim he has inspired us through his YouTube videos to create and hide more creative caches. We can hardly wait to find one of his caches when we visit the area in August to attend the Hatfield-McCoy Mega event. His creativity and generosity in sharing his ideas and methods are a big part of what geocaching is all about.

  21. Congratulations to all the nominees. Our vote is for WVTim. He truly cares about the geocaching community. He wants geocaching to be enjoyable for everyone. Plus his caches are truly one of a kind.

  22. moenk is my choice. Caus German geocaching without the “green hell” is nothing

  23. I vote for moenk who mixed geocaching and motorcycling to the “Cacher’s Moped”-Events.

  24. I would lend support to WVTim as well. Not only is he an inspiring cache hider, but he is a wonderful person as well. He regularly holds events intended to further the game. His hides are unique and inspirational. His maintenance is second-to-none. It is impossible to find a WVTim cache and not crack a smile.

  25. I do not know all three candidates, but I do know that WVTim is worthy. He has many very clever caches that are fun to find. He provides onsite help with a built-in phone a friend to allow everyone to be successful. He maintains all of his caches well. He hosts events which teach new and old (silver and gold?) cachers many aspects of geocaching. My vote is for WVTim.
