Now it’s your turn to help select one of them as the Featured Geocacher of the Month for March.

Write a comment at the bottom of this blog about which of these geocachers you feel should be awarded the featured Geocacher of the Month title.

In February, Uncle Louwtjie, aka louwtjievdw, was named the Featured Geocacher of the Month. He’s known in the South African geocaching community as a creative geocache hider. He’s built a reputation as a geocacher who’s as quick to maintain his geocache hides as he is to make friends with new geocachers. He’s also known for friendly advice, leaving great logs on geocaches he’s found and having a cup of coffee ready for geocachers at his home.

Here are your nominees for the March featured Geocacher of the Month. Some testimonials have been edited for length.

moenk – nominee for Featured Geocacher of the Month

@mic nominated moenk who’s been geocaching since 2003. @mic says, “He (moenk) is the inventor of the very popular “Dönerstag“, an event which is celebrated in more than hundred locations worldwide on the same day. Furthermore, he created the biggest geocaching forum in Germany, Geoclub.de. And last but not least, he was producing a very famous podcast about geocaching called, “Cachetalk.” Another nominee wrote, “Moenk fosters the community towards a healthy growth, a responsible handling of nature and preserving the meaning and fun of geocaching. The Geocacher of the Month is a worthy reward for the energy, the
impetus and the style with which he supports the geocaching community.”

WVTim – nominee for Featured Geocacher of the Month

wallmeister22601 writes, “Tim is an outstanding geocacher who has inspired many a person with his unique and unusual geocaches. His caches are what inspired me to start hiding caches of my own and to continue geocaching.  His caches draw people from other states that come to his home state of West Virginia specifically to search for the wonderful and creative WVTim caches. He has the number one favorite physical traditional cache in the state of Virginia as well.

Tim is one of the most responsible geocache owners that I know. If any of his caches are in need of attention he will make it a point to repair them or replace them as quickly as he can. In short Tim in my opinion is a pillar of the geocaching community that inspires, encourages, educates and gives back so much.”

MallorcaClaudia writes, “They have placed a lot of geocaches in Majorca [including one featured as the Geocache of the Week with more than 350 favorite Points] and all of them are fantastic ones with special places, great views and nice trips. When I met them one year ago on a geocaching event I found out that they are also very friendly and nice people. They have given me a lot of advice on how to place geocaches and how to do the maintenance. For me they have become very good friends and for me the chrismaxx team is an idol.”

Once we have received all of the nominations, we will choose the top candidates and post them on the blog. You will then get a chance to champion your favorite. Our goal is to involve the entire geocaching community in this process so we might learn from each other.

  1. WVTim! His caches are the most intriguing caches! His mission is to “hide caches you want to find.” And it’s so true that his caches can be easy to find but signing the log is a fun, intriguing, challenge that brings you back for more and more.

  3. WV Tim is the best choice–He produces excellent, well-crafted caches that keep everyone thinking and talking. He is a credit to the sport and the community. He always has time to talk caching to everyone whether they are a novince or have 5000 caches to their name. He’s really awesome.

  4. WVTIM’s caches and reputation in the Eastern USA as an all around amazing guy is why I vote for WVTIM.

  5. Other cachers may be worthy, but WVTIM is the best. Once you’ve been around him for 2 minutes and attempted a few of his caches you know why people drive hours to come to one of his seminars and play with his caches.

  6. I recently had my first opportunity to run across a WVTim cache and all I can say is his cache was designed and executed at the highest possible level. It was innovative to an extreme degree, yet was not so impossible as to drive you off. The whole experience was a joy. I vote for WVTim for his ability to show us all just how great geocaching can be. Grand High Pobah/Brady Nellis

  7. WVTim! I have not had the pleasure of finding his caches. But I have heard great things about all of his hides (look at those favorite points!) and his great way of helping out the caching community. I think he best represents what you would want in a Geocacher of the Month. He shows respect for everyone playing the game and he does an extra amazing job building and maintaining his own caches. Now I want a road trip to West Virginia!

  8. I would like to vote for WVTim…let me share with you our experience we had with WVTim at Martinsburg North Middle School. Last fall, WVTim and his wife came to our school and introduced his skill and talent of Geocaching with our entire 6th grade class. He taught the students for an entire week and on the last day, he and his wife set up our very own Geocaching course around our campus for the students to explore utilizing skills just taught. What a great way for WVTim to share his interest, skill, and talent with younger students who can take the knowledge with them!! Martinsburg North Middle VOTES FOR WVTIM!!

  9. Groundspeak : Comment, I’ve already voted. This is an observation and recommendation. I appreciate the fact you encourage and allow us to comment on the candidates. I think that should continue and be encouraged. What I don’t understand is the voting, because you can vote as many times as you like – thus, totally invalidating the vote counts. Also, I find it very discouraging that comments of positive attributes or maybe better said, things the nominee’s have accomplished are voted down. What am I missing? Why would anyone give a vote down for anything positive that the nominee’s have done to improve our sport. Congratulations and good for them! I think you should change the process to “eliminate” the up and down arrows below each vote or comment. Let’s encourage these nominee’s !!!

  10. WVTim please. His creativity is beyond what most caches put out and he is always willing to help you with any of them. My interactions with his have always been awesome. Hope he wins the very deserving Geocacher Of the Month!

  11. Good point… all the nominees are really already winners, appreciated by the global community, and hopefully able to bask in the glow of geocaching affirmation. 99.9% of geocachers who comment have the right spirit. We’ll work on encouraging positive exchanges. While voting takes place, it isn’t the only measure, we definitely take comments into account. Following that spirit, thanks for your comment!
