Now it’s your turn to help select one of them as the Featured Geocacher of the Month for March.

Write a comment at the bottom of this blog about which of these geocachers you feel should be awarded the featured Geocacher of the Month title.

In February, Uncle Louwtjie, aka louwtjievdw, was named the Featured Geocacher of the Month. He’s known in the South African geocaching community as a creative geocache hider. He’s built a reputation as a geocacher who’s as quick to maintain his geocache hides as he is to make friends with new geocachers. He’s also known for friendly advice, leaving great logs on geocaches he’s found and having a cup of coffee ready for geocachers at his home.

Here are your nominees for the March featured Geocacher of the Month. Some testimonials have been edited for length.

moenk

moenk – nominee for Featured Geocacher of the Month

@mic nominated moenk who’s been geocaching since 2003. @mic says, “He (moenk) is the inventor of the very popular “Dönerstag“, an event which is celebrated in more than hundred locations worldwide on the same day. Furthermore, he created the biggest geocaching forum in Germany, Geoclub.de. And last but not least, he was producing a very famous podcast about geocaching called, “Cachetalk.” Another nominee wrote, “Moenk fosters the community towards a healthy growth, a responsible handling of nature and preserving the meaning and fun of geocaching. The Geocacher of the Month is a worthy reward for the energy, the
impetus and the style with which he supports the geocaching community.”

WVTim – nominee for Featured Geocacher of the Month

wallmeister22601 writes, “Tim is an outstanding geocacher who has inspired many a person with his unique and unusual geocaches. His caches are what inspired me to start hiding caches of my own and to continue geocaching.  His caches draw people from other states that come to his home state of West Virginia specifically to search for the wonderful and creative WVTim caches. He has the number one favorite physical traditional cache in the state of Virginia as well.

Tim is one of the most responsible geocache owners that I know. If any of his caches are in need of attention he will make it a point to repair them or replace them as quickly as he can. In short Tim in my opinion is a pillar of the geocaching community that inspires, encourages, educates and gives back so much.”

MallorcaClaudia writes, “They have placed a lot of geocaches in Majorca [including one featured as the Geocache of the Week with more than 350 favorite Points] and all of them are fantastic ones with special places, great views and nice trips. When I met them one year ago on a geocaching event I found out that they are also very friendly and nice people. They have given me a lot of advice on how to place geocaches and how to do the maintenance. For me they have become very good friends and for me the chrismaxx team is an idol.”

  1. Moenk should be it. No reason other that I have used his website in teh past and find it very useful

  2. Moenk has left a tremendous influence on caching all over the world. There’s no question he is worthy.

  3. WVTim is hands down my choice. He spends so much time sharing his love of geocaching with the community through hosting events not just to get together but also to educate. He has had caving tutorials to prep people for extreme caches. He hosts an anual event to introduce new cachers to how to hunt as well as hide responsibly. He has even went into the local schools to give geocaching/navigation talks for geography classes. He really gives back to the community far more than he takes.

  4. The one and only moenk – he’s the greatest geocaching and groundspeak fan alive!

  5. WVTim and his caches are simply put….Amazing. I was actually getting a bit bored of caching last year and started looking for things a bit more unique. A quick pocket query revealed a ton of gadget caches up in Martinsburg, WV by this guy named WVTim. Me and my tribe, drove over 2 hours to get up there and have not stop going back since. From his truly unique caches, to his family friendly seminars, he truly makes geocaching exhilarating. You yearn to see what creation will come forth from his mind next. When called for help on a cache he and his wife WVGrammy politely guide you through your issues until you score the smiley. He is kind, committed, and a mentor to the community. Thanks Tim and keep up the good work!

  6. Voting for chrismaxx – geocachin on Mallorca is wonderful; a place with high quality caches as it should be everywhere and chrismaxx is very much contributing to this incredibly positive geocaching expereince

  7. I’m quite curious, why a cacher, who says that Groundspeak can “kiss his ass” is a nominated cacher, but well…Groundspeak isn’t that bad if you can get prestige out of it, moenk?

I see literally no reason to vote for moenk, he ignores wishes from owners, several nice and creative unknown caches are spoiled in his forum and if an owner asks to remove it, there is bashing by him and his fellow admin.

Why that resembles such great value for geocaching will remain a miracle for me.

I’ll vote for everyone except moenk!

  8. WVTim sounds like he really cares about Geocaching. It’s not always the great big things that count as much as the things such as talks to school classes, helping new cachers etc.

  9. 1.
He has placed the #1 Favorited Cache in Virginia and West Virginia, and
the #10 favorited cache in Maryland. He has over 2000 favorite votes on
his caches. Very few of those votes are location based, but rather
because of the uniquest of his hides.

    2. He
has coordinated 12 events and 11 of those were educational.

    3.
He is the Geocaching Merit Badge Counselor for the local Scout troop.

    4.
He is a geocache volunteer for the State of WV.

    5.
To encourage building creative caches, he shares his geocaching ideas
with other cachers all over the globe. He spends hours each week
coorresponding to geocachers sharing ideas and diagrams on how to build his
    famous “gadget caches” .

    6.
His local town did not allow geocaches on city property, he worked with the
city council to develop an approval process and know geocaches are welcomed and
    encouraged.

  10. WVTim hands down:

    1. He has placed the #1 Favorited Cache in Virginia and West Virginia, and
the #10 favorited cache in Maryland. He has over 2000 favorite votes on
his caches. Very few of those votes are location based, but rather
because of the uniquest of his hides.

    2. He has coordinated 12 events and 11 of those were educational.

3.He is the Geocaching Merit Badge Counselor for the local Scout troop.

4.He is a geocache volunteer for the State of WV.

5.To encourage building creative caches, he shares his geocaching ideas
with other cachers all over the globe. He spends hours each week
coorresponding to geocachers sharing ideas and diagrams on how to build his
    famous “gadget caches” .

    6. His local town did not allow geocaches on city property, he worked with the
city council to develop an approval process and know geocaches are welcomed and
    encouraged.

  11. No question it should be WVTim. He really cares about the community, unlike others who seek fame and glory for their own egos.

  12. If I had not seen the picture of WVTim on this page I would not be able to pick him out of a line-up. I know him best from his caches and his willingness to support and build caching through seminars. He has conducted several seminars in the local area. He had pulled in the best and brightest cachers to serve as mentors to younger and less experienced cachers. He has quickly developed a reputation for literally building cache hosts that are works of art. In addition, these caches are wildly creative, bordering on devious as to how you actually access the cache within the container… this includes one that has a built-in electric motor that requires power from your car battery to actuate the motor that raises the cache container out of the host and has you reversing the polarity to have the container disappear back in the host. He’s “Cacher of the Year” in his home area.

  13. I vote WVTim. He hosts extreme geocaching events and then takes cachers into his cave cache. He assists cachers into the cave. If you get stuck on finding a cache, like gadgets of sleepy creek, he is a phone call away. He even drove up to help make sure I finished the cache, which is a series of puzzles. Everyone around likes his creative caches. He puts a lot of time into making his caches fun and creative.

  14. WVTim is an absolutely amazing cache builder. The enormous effort he puts into creating his caches makes for an awesome geocaching experience for all. He also contributes to the geocaching community through hosting an annual seminar, attended by cachers and non-cachers alike. For those with a lot of caching experience, this is an opportunity to gain knowledge in the more advanced aspects of the hobby, while for those who are new or have never cached before can learn the basic skills they need to have a great time. He is also an absolutely enjoyable fellow to be with. He is definitely worthy of recognition for his contribution to geocaching.

  15. WVTim gives so much joy back to the geocaching community. He sponsors a geocaching seminar every year that has sessions for both beginner and experienced cachers. He also has hosted quite a few spelunking events and has taken tons of cachers on a tour of an amazing cave. He spends countless hours designing and building highly interactive caches that require you to think and manipulate something to be able sign the log. His ingenuity is rewarded with countless favorite points. You just can’t do a WVTim cache and not give it a favorite point! He offers his PAFs readily and his enthusiasm makes him a joy to talk with. His excitement is truly contagious!

  16. WVTim, not only because of all he has done for the geocaching community, including hosting events, supporting the WV Department of Commerce in their efforts to promote the state through geocaching, introducing others to geocaching, and much more, but also because of his honesty and integrity, not to mention his dedication to family (well, guess I DID mention it)!
