Now it’s your turn to help select one of them as the Featured Geocacher of the Month for March.

Write a comment at the bottom of this blog about which of these geocachers you feel should be awarded the featured Geocacher of the Month title.

In February, Uncle Louwtjie, aka louwtjievdw, was named the Featured Geocacher of the Month. He’s known in the South African geocaching community as a creative geocache hider. He’s built a reputation as a geocacher who’s as quick to maintain his geocache hides as he is to make friends with new geocachers. He’s also known for friendly advice, leaving great logs on geocaches he’s found and having a cup of coffee ready for geocachers at his home.

Here are your nominees for the March featured Geocacher of the Month. Some testimonials have been edited for length.

moenk

moenk – nominee for Featured Geocacher of the Month

@mic nominated moenk who’s been geocaching since 2003. @mic says, “He (moenk) is the inventor of the very popular “Dönerstag“, an event which is celebrated in more than hundred locations worldwide on the same day. Furthermore, he created the biggest geocaching forum in Germany, Geoclub.de. And last but not least, he was producing a very famous podcast about geocaching called, “Cachetalk.” Another nominee wrote, “Moenk fosters the community towards a healthy growth, a responsible handling of nature and preserving the meaning and fun of geocaching. The Geocacher of the Month is a worthy reward for the energy, the
impetus and the style with which he supports the geocaching community.”

WVTim

WVTim
WVTim – nominee for Featured Geocacher of the Month

wallmeister22601 writes, “Tim is an outstanding geocacher who has inspired many a person with his unique and unusual geocaches. His caches are what inspired me to start hiding caches of my own and to continue geocaching.  His caches draw people from other states that come to his home state of West Virginia specifically to search for the wonderful and creative WVTim caches. He has the number one favorite physical traditional cache in the state of Virginia as well.

Tim is one of the most responsible geocache owners that I know. If any of his caches are in need of attention he will make it a point to repair them or replace them as quickly as he can. In short Tim in my opinion is a pillar of the geocaching community that inspires, encourages, educates and gives back so much.”

Chrismaxx

MallorcaClaudia writes, “They have placed a lot of geocaches in Majorca [including one featured as the Geocache of the Week with more than 350 favorite Points] and all of them are fantastic ones with special places, great views and nice trips. When I met them one year ago on a geocaching event I found out that they are also very friendly and nice people. They have given me a lot of advice on how to place geocaches and how to do the maintenance. For me they have become very good friends and for me the chrismaxx team is an idol.”

Once we have received all of the nominations, we will choose the top candidates and post them on the blog. You will then get a chance to champion your favorite. Our goal is to involve the entire geocaching community in this process so we might learn from each other.

  1. I vote for moenk, his great podcast is very instructive and he runs the most famous internet forum here in Germany. Besides that, he owns many popular caches over here and is inventor of the great Dönerstag event series!

  2. WVTim has the best geocaches I’ve seen in my extensive travels. They are always creative and fun.

  3. This comment is a fake. I phoned to my friend Onkel Torte and we would never vote against me. By the way, I’m sure that this is not the only one in this strange election.

  4. My vote is for WVTim, never met him but I here he has some creative hides and is really deserving of this title.

  5. We vote for WVTIM. Tim has been a great inspiration to many cachers. His time and effort he puts into each of his caches is remarkable! Good Luck Tim!

  6. I hardly like the idea of supporting someone so contrarian. WVTim is by far the best bet.

  7. My vote for moenk! Because he did a lot for the geocaching community. TFTC – Thanks-for-the-communityaction, moenk!

  8. Congrats to all three nominees! I hate that we have to select one, because all three are worthy. I took a quick look at each profile and noted the following:

    Active Caches (excl events): WVTim – 109 (2 needs mtce); Chrismaxx – 60 (0 needs mtce); Moenk – 25 (11 needs mtce)
    Recently Placed Caches (Placed since 01/01/10 & Active): WVTim – 84; Chrismaxx – 38; Moenk – 3
    Events: Moenk – 27; WVTim – 16, Chrismaxx – 4
    Caches with 30 Favorite points or more: WVTim – 20; Chrismaxx – 18; Moenk – 1

Based on all this, I would select WVTim 1st, Chrismaxx 2nd, and Moenk 3rd.

  9. The 2 caches marked as neeeds mtce for WVTim were marked as needs mtce on 4/5/13, 2 days ago so it’s not like they have been in need for a long time. One has been tmp disable by WVTim as well. Just pointing out that WVTim does not sit by and watch needs mtce logs pile up.

  10. WVTim! we were driving home from NY to FL and we came across his “evolution of the outhouse” cache and actually decided to stay in WV for the night so we could do a few more of his caches in the morning! they were terrific

  11. I vote for moenk because I really like the way his forum sticks together the German community.

  12. On the surface this looks like a tough decision. There are lots of votes for moenk and WVTim. Appears moenk has the most votes, but WVTim clearly has the most comments or should I say “supporting evidence”. Probably 80% of the people who made “comments” (more than – “I vote for _______”) are supporting WVTim. I see “paragraphs” of supporting statements about WVTim and the many things he has accomplished for geocaching.
I am familiar with WVTim due to his YouTube videos. His gadgetcaches channel, in only 3 months, has nearly 11K views. He does instructional videos on how to build his gadget caches. So, he not only has amazing caches, he is giving ideas and instructions to cachers everywhere on how to build them. Cachers everywhere are benefiting from this guy whose caches have over 2K favorite votes. Plus, he just doesn’t do great caches. I’ve learned from this blog he has seminars, educational events, he teaches geocaching in schools, and to the Boy Scouts. He assists his state and local government in placing geocaching trails.

This is not like the problem you must have had in Jan. – in trying to decide between The Raven and Weasel. Both had tons
of supporting documentation! That’s NOT the case this month. WVTim wins this one hands down. The EVIDENCE is clearly
    overwhelming in favor of him.

  13. I have not met any of these folks, but WVtim’s reputation has reached my
ears in Florida from several cachers who prize quality over quantity.
That’s a very strong recommendation in my book. My vote is for WVtim.

  14. Thank you to everyone who cast a vote and commented. It’s important that we say again, that everyone nominated is an outstanding geocacher and person. Just to be nominated by your fellow community members is an honor. Each nominee contributes to the greater community in their own ways, and we’re all better for it. We now here at Geocaching HQ have the difficult task of deciding, weighing heavily on your remarkable comments. We’ll make the announcement in the next few days, and email all three nominee with the decision first, before posting on the blog. Each will receive prizes and recognition for their efforts. Again, congratulations to all and thank you for your comments!
    Eric

  15. My vote is for WVTim. He is obviously keeping his caches maintained so that cachers can enjoy them. He is also spreading the word of geoacaching by teaching others. What a great example of a geocacher! We need more people just like him!

  16. My vote is for WVTim. He is spreading the word of geocaching and being a responsible cache owner by maintaining his caches. We need many more caches just like this!
