Geocaching is celebrating the 2 Millionth Active Geocache by rewarding geocachers with more than a dozen previously unreleased Geocaching Souvenirs. Souvenirs are digital post cards for your profile. You earn a souvenir by finding a geocache in a specific country, like Spain. The virtual pieces of art are displayed on your Geocaching profile page, as well as on the Geocaching iPhone, Android and Windows Phone 7 apps.

Geocaching will release five souvenirs shortly after the 2 Millionth Active Geocaches is reached. We’ll release five Geocaching Souvenirs each work day until all previously unreleased souvenirs are available to geocachers.  After all the souvenirs are released no more state or regional souvenirs are planned. Nearly a hundred souvenirs already exist! See a selection of the most popular Geocaching Souvenirs offered on Geocaching!

OMG… a Dublin souvenir… where are the final country souvenirs?

  • http://www.facebook.com/lars.major.9 Lars Major

That realy nice, but I have a question.

I have several logs in austria, but not the souvenir relased today. Do I have to log another cache in austria to get the souvenir, or is there another way to get it after logging?

  • monistrolencs

I have found caches in Spain, Austria and Dublin, and still nothing!

  • JakobB

I’m really hoping for Denmark because we’re one of the countries with the most geocaches and no souvenir.

  • Thurkan

como podemos tener uno propio para Chile o para Sudamerica???

  • http://blog.geocaching.com Eric Schudiske

Here they come… They’re rolling out now! Enjoy!

  • http://blog.geocaching.com Eric Schudiske

Hi Lars, Good question… the souvenirs will be retroactive. Let me know if it pops up shortly. Happy geocaching,

  • Wolfsstern

Hey there, you made a German couple REALLY happy, thank a Lot!

  • 23Hunter

I have found several caches in the netherlands, and i aint go no souvenir yet.

  • The A-Team

Can you explain what is meant by “all previously unreleased souvenirs”? Does that mean every country/state/region that currently has a cache, just a select number of the countries with the most caches, or a select number of countries for which souvenirs had already been prepared?

  • http://blog.geocaching.com Eric Schudiske

Hello my favorite childhood television show (The A-team)… Geocaching produced more than two dozen souvenirs that were never released. Now that our site is higher preforming, with much more memory, we’re able to release them. We thought the 2 millionth geocache was a perfect time to do so. While not every country or region will be represented, we felt this was a great way to welcome in the 2 millionth geocache. Hope you enjoy!

  • Undercover-MAN

Why is the souvenier only for Dublin and not for the rest of Ireland ???

  • lucie

Some people have received an “England” Souvenir today… but that isn’t on this list!

  • olfwyn

hoping that at least every european country gets it’s souvenir and all major caching country around the world – if not I can’t understand why a city (like Dublin) gets a souvernir if a country does not.

  • Jeepsussal

Maybe a souvenier for Slovenija, Italy, Croatia and France?

  • Jeepsussal

Because in slovenija there is a great geocaching community. They have a lot of earthcaches and high quality tradi, multi and mysti caches.

  • Struppi

Ehm… and “DUBLIN” is a country on its own now???

  • http://www.facebook.com/william.dieterich William Dieterich

Was looking around and saw them, really nice; got 4 of the 5 released today. Love the Hallstadt one.

  • elise

    what about France? :(

  • http://blog.geocaching.com Eric Schudiske

    I think you’ll reverse that :( in a few days… Keep watching…

  • http://blog.geocaching.com Eric Schudiske

Some countries/regions has multiple souvenirs – Ireland will have a total of five regions.

  • The fuddster

How about Bahamas, Mexico, Honduras, Belize, and other cruise location that cachers visit everyday?

  • ninkabrunik

when do I have to log Found it on a cache in a specific country to get the souvenir? just on the day when the souvenir has been released or it doesn’t matter? thx

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=506551107 Nathan Russell

i wish there was a Souvenir for the Rock of Gibraltar!

  • Ttcm4geo

How can we be certain to get our souvenir? For example, do we have to watch for the day the USA souvenir is released, then find a cache on that day? Please be more clear on this. And thanks for the souvenir concept. It is funny how fun those little electronic things are for me!

  • Aga & Deti

Thanks for the Espana-Souvenir. I like the picture. Also the Austrian Souvenir. But Espana looks more adventurous^^

  • http://www.facebook.com/william.dieterich William Dieterich

No it if have one found in the area you will get it. It does take some time for all people to be processed. There are some souviners based on a certain day or event and then you have to be there or get a cache on that day in order to get it.

  • http://www.facebook.com/william.dieterich William Dieterich

There were a few that were released before the correct date. We just have to wait :)

  • LeyaQman

France, Turkey, Denmark, Iceland, United Arab Emirates, Thailand…???

  • Wood-angel

I hope they put some in Iceland. I want one

  • Sally Green

Are The New Souvenirs just like The Old State ones? Will you get them whenever you Log a Cache in that Country (maybe next Year in Summer Valvation) or do you only get them If you allready have a Log by The Day they are released?

  • The A-Team

It’s very unfortunate and confusing to hear that only two dozen will be released. To release additional ones, wouldn’t it simply be a matter of creating the artwork and releasing it? The code is all there already to do the awarding, and any further countries would add very little additional server load compared to the ones already released. As someone else has mentioned elsewhere, the biggest sense of accomplishment would be for the countries which have the fewest caches, but these will likely be the ones that won’t receive souvenirs. I’m hoping Groundspeak will reconsider, but based on their past track record, I’m not going to be holding my breath. It took 2 years to get these already-created souvenirs released…

  • geognarles

I am glad to see the new Geocaching Souvenirs, so that when I go to those counties I can receive one. It;s not about the numbers any more it is now about the souvenirs. Happy caching

  • http://www.facebook.com/PathfinderMark Mark O’Ffill

Its kinda ridiculous that Dublin gets a souvenir before European – lotsa caches COUNTRIES don’t have one yet….dumb.

  • Grandma Nan

I also hope Denmark, England, Canada and, naturally, the United States receive souvenirs–because I have cached in all those countries–but please don’t stop the souvenirs–I love the artwork and it is fun to collect them–I agree that all caching countries should eventually get a souvenir–and many events too.

  • Christian Keays

Just afraid that the push and focus on 2 million means that a lot of crappy caches were put out to accelerate the count. :(

  • Finland

    I hope Finland souvenir!

  • SAROC

Lots of Northern Hemisphere suggestions – yes I can understand that with the number of caches and cachers “up there” – but can we have some Southern Hemisphere Souvenirs please (I see New South Wales, Australia has one). How about one for New Zealand or South Africa or one covering the (southern) Pacific Islands?

Well done on the five released above (Feb 28), especially like the Austrian and Spanish souvenirs. Someday hope to get to Europe to cache.

  • Luue

    Oesterreich looks really cool *o*

  • T/S

I’m hoping for some holiday ones. Like Christmas, Valentines Day etc…

  • Chris

Don’t stop souvenires! We all like them!
And my Austria souvenir doesn’t look like the one above!?

  • pepet23

Si Dublin tiene souvenir, Barcelona se merece uno. Espero souvenirs de los siguientes paises: Argentina, Japón, England, Francia, Denmark, Italia…

    Thank you.

  • Braryl158

I just return from a cruise, and was disappointed that there were no souvenirs for the Carribean Islands. I tried to get one or two in each Island, thinking I would get the souvenir….so sad. Hope they come soon. Thanks

  • Dara Connolly

Very happy with the new souvenirs! A good way to mark the 2,000,000 milestone. It’s fun the way you are rolling them out in batches. Looking forward to seeing tomorrow’s 5! Thanks, Dara.

  • Carol

    We were hoping for Mexico.

  • GEO Karen

Given that New South Wales is labled 3 of 8 I am guessing that the remaining 7 also will be released – if they are not already, but then why keep this one back.
Further given that the text says “more than a dozen” (= 12) and not for instance two dozen I am guessing that 15-18-20 souvenirs will be released. 5 were released February 28., one of which was New South Wales, meaning – in my guess – 10-13-15 remains. With 7 reserved for Australia there will not be many souveniers for the rest of the world.
IF – when all souvenirs are released – there is not a souvenir for all geocaching countries, I think it is a wrong decision to discontinue all making of new state or regional souvenirs.

  • NYPaddleCacher

I strongly agree with the A-Team that country/region based souvenirs should continue after this batch of new souvenirs have been released. It’s pretty obvious from the comments here and in forum discussions is that this is something users want. I wouldn’t expect GS continue to release 5 day. Even a few a month would be nice and as the list of countries added grows it will start to include many that have fewer caches (the number of caches per country drops significantly after to “top” 20 or so) and put an incrementally smaller load on the servers.

I think that some people are a bit confused about the Dublin souvenir. It’s not for the city, but for one of the regions in Ireland. It’s not any different than the U.S. States, or Canadian province souvenirs. There aren’t souvenirs for the United States, Canada, or Germany either but finding a cache anywhere in one of those countries will produce a souvenir. Eventually, all of the other regions in Ireland will be represented as well, so finding a cache anywhere in Ireland will result in a souvenir.

  • NYPaddleCacher

What you’re probably seeing is the thumbnail for the souvenir. Click on the image or the link below it to see the full artwork.

Hoping for a souvenir for France

  • http://www.facebook.com/ruialbertodealmeida Rui de Almeida

    Brazil, please, please, please :)
If there are not many caches, at least we have the last Ape Cache…. hummm… a souvenir for that one too, would be great :D
