Sherry Adams writes, “Mike, a.k.a. firedog09us has spent 27 years as a career firefighter. In his spare time, which he doesn’t have much of, he enjoys geocaching. He has introduced quite a few of his friends to this also. But what is really special about Mike’s geocaching is his hides. He has some of the coolest and most creative caches in Northeast Alabama. He puts a lot of time, effort and creativity into these hides and it shows. Almost everyone that visits one will comment on how fun, unique and clever they are.”

TeamAstro

TeamAstro

Nominated by duncast, John, a.k.a. TeamAstro “is a prolific finder and hider of caches, and an iconic cacher from South Australia. Very approachable and friendly, his eagerness to help out the new, and frankly give a piece of his mind on other’s caches is greatly respected in the South Australian community. Astro’s Solar System series of caches is an outstanding achievement. It is a series of caches being progressively released across Australia from Adelaide that create the worlds largest scale model of the Solar System. Astro is also the proud owner of the most popular cache in SA based on Favorite Points. Astro La Vista, Baby!”

Brandon.helm11 explains, “Whether it’s a Christmas tree, using eleven empty micro cache containers as ornaments and the twelfth as the log, or by honoring a small town by preserving local history by sharing his locations with other cachers and writing up a wonderful and informative description about each hide, Gene, a.k.a. Yowza-PA has inspired me to be creative in my own hides. Yowza-PA has also been a great advocate for this wonderful game offering tips, tricks, and techniques to others and making the experience more memorable for all of us who know his unforgettable hides.”

My vote is emphatically for yowza-pa. This summer, my daughter was born. Instead of having her close to home, my wife was sent to a more specialized hospital quite a distance away. Luckily for me, it happened to be the home town of Gene. His well placed caches helped me physically work out my frustrations with a good hike and his puzzle series kept my mind busy when i needed the most distraction.

Add a vote for firedog09us from me. Refreshing creativity and much appreciated hides. Good write-ups on his listings too.

  • Julian Sporne (Trail06)

Team Astro is my vote. He plants great caches that are both fun and educational. A highlight for me was camping out after a long day caching and Astro teaching us about the solar system and the constellations. Definitely Team Astro for me.

Despite the fact that I nominated him, I’d be allowed to post something here too I guess? :) As a new cacher myself, TeamAstro has directly and indirectly contributed quite a bit to my own passion of the game. And I know my own experience isn’t unique based on the glassy-eyed stories of Astro’s exploits from other, more experienced cachers I’ve met on my travels and at events. Team Astro has literally travelled the length and breadth of Australia with his cache hides, inspired others to look skywards with their caches, and is completely selfless in the way he conducts himself around other cachers. One of my fondest memories during my albeit short caching career was finding the TeamAstro dedication cache on the Wanderingheros trail (GC30697). Not only is Astro’s caches uniquely fantastic, caches dedicated to him are also. He just oozes inspiration. He might have a few choice words to say about micros in the bush, but its all about educating new people like me the proper etiquette of the game. TeamAstro is an absolute force behind the caching scene in Australia, and deserves to be the Geocacher of the Month.

Another vote for firedog… Mike has introduced many to geocaching…his patience with newbies, his hides at our area’s historic sites plus his cleverly designed caches make his a great choice.

  • Launa W

How many cachers can boast a number of caches spread over an area of 7.7million sq/km? Teamastro is the clear choice this month.

    firedog09us…. Great guy!

  • Team Hamam

TeamAstro gets my vote. Not only in the local area, but right across Australia, John/Astro has influenced and introduced lots of people to geocaching. The solar system caches, placed way back in 2003 are still there (I don’t think any have been muggled) – amazing in its own right. These educational and fun caches are amazing but even more incredible as they are an actual scale model of the solar system. Surely this month, there is a clear winner!! Australia needs a winner too!!!

  • Wesley82

Go Astro. Thanks for getting me out an about even thought I’m 86 years young. Always encouraging me to go the extra mile. Clear skies!!!!!!!!!
