Geocacher of the Month

The September featured nominees have been described as kind, patient, adventurous, and addicted. Groundspeak Lackeys selected these three nominees because of what they’ve said and done to inspire and encourage members of their community to get out and geocache.

August Featured Geocacher of the Month, whbaisden

Now it’s your turn to help select one of them as the Featured Geocacher of the Month for September.

Write a comment at the bottom of this blog about which of these geocachers you feel should be crowned.

Last month, Wendy, a.k.a. whbaisden was honored with the title of August Featured Geocacher of the Month. Whbaisden was recognized for putting together the Hatfield and McCoy GeoTrail Kickoff Event that took place on September 1, 2012. She has also been a strong advocate for her community since she started geocaching in 2010.

Here are your nominees for the September Featured Geocacher of the Month. Some testimonials have been edited for length.

SpongeBob CachePants

SpongeBob CachePants

The August Featured Geocacher of the Month, whbaisden, writes, “So much of what makes me a geocacher comes from Stuart, a.k.a. SpongeBob CachePants and his comment when we met two years ago. I had only a few finds compared to his 2,500 and he teased me that my finds were ‘not bad for a girl.’ That statement inspired me to change my entire life and become the crazy geocacher I am today. He has encouraged the people around him to be creative. His hides make you think. He has respect for the game and a name among the community that makes people want to be near him. His Gatti Land(ing) cache is my very favorite of the 6,800 I have found since his comment. Mostly, however, his work on the Hatfield McCoy GeoTrail can not be unnoticed. He wrote every cache page and co-designed every aspect of the Geocoin, the website and the series. Without him and his contributions HMGT [Hatfield McCoy GeoTrail] would not exist. I’d have to say, SpongeBob isn’t bad….for a boy.”

frisbee’r

frisbee’r

Nominated by tallgirl84, Daniel, a.k.a. frisbee’r “is a geocaching legend! In addition to finding almost 20,000 caches, he is a great competitor in FTF’s and 5/5′s. Even though he lives well over an hour away from my hometown, he still  managed to beat myself and five other dedicated geocachers on a 5/5 kayak/canoe cache by a few hours. And he went solo! Frisbee’r is also very fast to respond to a call for help with finding caches he’s already found, without simply giving away the answers. Along with those wonderful characteristics, frisbee’r is also beyond excellent company! Despite his bad knees, he hiked up and down multiple steep and long logging roads for the Qwest series in Aberdeen, WA. This is after having done another series involving more hill climbing earlier that morning, and not once did the man complain. In fact – the other geocachers in our group and I took turns hanging back and having our own great mini-conversations with him. He is an awesome cacher and in my mind the poster-boy of what a ‘real’ geocacher is - excitable, kind, patient, adventurous and addicted!”

emilierene

emilierene

Nominated by Steelers Chic, Emily, a.k.a. emilierene “loves the sport of geocaching and is not selfish. She enjoys helping anyone who is interested in getting started.  She has gotten us involved by encouraging us in the beginning to just ride along and ‘see what’s out there.’  Emily plans her vacations around geocaching and her weekends are all about the sport. She has saved and saved,  and recently, she was able to purchase her new kayak so she can get geocaches on the water and on the islands.  She is a vital part of the geocaching community in Coos Bay, Oregon.  The caches she places are well thought out and draw you to places you might not go to if there wasn’t a cache there.”

Comment below to tell us who you think should be the featured September Geocacher of the Month. A panel of Lackeys will use your comments to help decide which geocacher is awarded the honor. • Badgercacher

I’ve got to vote for Emilierene. Don’t know anyone else who is so enthusiastic about caching and brings so much to the sport. She deserves cacher of the month hands down.

Go emilerene!! She’s a VERY cool person (whether with her for caching or not). She certainly personifies your criteria for this: helpful, outgoing, and as addicted as they come!!!

    emilierene :)

  • Ol’Fogies

SpongeBob CachePants gets my vote! We attended the Hatfield McCoy GeoTrail events and the presence of his hard work was obvious in every aspect even if he wasn’t standing right there. He (along with Wendy and many volunteers) provided a fantastic weekend of caching, fellowship, history, adventure and fun for over 500 attendees. And even during the rough spots, he continued to smile and take care of all of us without a skipped beat. It was truly a pleasure meeting him and we look forward to seeing him again in the future. He’s the kind of cacher we should all aspire to be.

  • Michelle

I have personally witnessed emilierene in action and it’s amazing to watch. She truly has the “Geo-gift” so much so that if she were to bleed I’m sure a small geo coin would come out instead of blood…. GEO ON EM

  • Straggler

I vote for emilierene. She’s truly the cachin’ queen!

  • grandpadave

I vote for Frisbee’r.I’ve been on many cache adventures with this guy and must say he is the real energizer bunny, he just doesn’t quit. The challenge of the FTF chase, a new puzzle published or a new challenging cache really gets this guy going. He is always ready to help others and many cachers have him on their PAF speed dial.He set up an account for his grandson, aka Trailcub, and started him caching in an off road stroller before the tyke could even walk. This guy is passionate about the sport and will talk your leg off if the discussion turns to caching.

I am voting for SpongeBob CachePants. Hey with a name like that you just HAVE to sing it. :P Seriously tho, I am voting SBCP because of all the work he put in on the Hatfield McCoy Trail. I personally attended the event and was able to meet this awesome cacher, he treated us all like family from the moment we stepped foot into town. All the caches that were placed for the event were top notch and it was an all around amazing weekend. SpongeBoB CachePants goes the extra mile to make the caching experience for others extra ordinary.

  • Bad Duck

    My vote goes to Emilierene.

  • durango633

Leaving my vote for emilierene. We met her at various events and she was the organizer of the first Flash Mob we ever attended. The caches she placed locally were always well thought out and maintained.

  • CachemasterYoda

My vote is for Spongebob cache pants . He is a big part of the reason that I got into Geocaching. He taught a free class several years ago on Geocaching and did a great job at stoking the fire for caching. He has always put out quality caches and puts time into each of his pages. He also is always willing to be a “phone a friend” for those of us that may need a hint. He has also put together several events that are always fun to attend. Then to top it off he and Wendy went and put together the only “Mega” event this area has ever seen. The Hatfield/Mccoy Geotrail kick off event. All of these reasons more than qualify him to be the Geocacher of the month in my book. Thanks Kelly for all you do for our local caching community and for the Geocaching community as a whole.

Gotta throw my vote to SpongeBob CachePants! He and Wendy worked so hard to pull off an amazing, and unexpected MEGA event with the Hatfield McCoy Geotrail Kickoff. The Caches were top notch, as well as all the events they hosted. And when finally met, a most gracious and friendly gentleman. Some might even say, he isn’t bad for a boy!

  • CacheDFish

frisbee’r is a great experienced geocacher with a big heart. He has helped me out a few times in need, and always has a smile on his face.
He is a great friend and has fun showing off the fun of geocaching with everyone around him. He knows his way around the roads and the woods and is always open to hitting the trail for a smilie.

  • WazzuCacher

frisbee’r gets my vote as a great friend and knowledgable geocacher.

  • Blue_Bull

I vote for Emilierene. She danced the Macarena at a WWFM in my hometown! She is very friendly and has the utmost enthusiasm for geocaching.

  • FirefighterJ

My vote (which is worth 23,762,112 votes, of course :-) goes to Frisbee’r. Dan would do ANYTHING for ANYBODY and if you happened to be a cacher (or if it involved geocaching), then he would go not only the extra mile but another 6 furlongs after that!

  • Ken Shari Fun

I havnt voted before but when I saw that Frisbeer was nominated, I just had to vote. What a great guy who has all the caches that he has found in his head. If you had a question about a cache you could tell you.

  • Lonnie Schreiner

My vote is for Emilierene. She is great especially with that new Yak.

  • Frank

I vote for emilierene for September Geocacher of the Month.

I cast an enthusiastic vote for Emilierene. She and her husband, along with my wife and I and a handful of others, were founding members of the Johnstown-Altoona Geocaching Assocation, where she was one of the core members of our caching group and instrumental in developing caching into a fun, community sport in the Central PA region through events and group caching outings. I’ve shared in many group caching adventures with her, attended a number of events she’s hosted, and believe she is an outstanding choice for cacher of the month.

    My vote is for SpongeBobCachePants!

I would be proud to vote for SpongeBobCachePants.

  • m3a9

Without a doubt, I’m casting my vote for EMILIERENE for September’s Geocacher of the Month! We both hail from the same small town in central PA, though we met through geocaching. She has always been an enthusiastic cacher and very welcoming to everyone involved in the game. In addition to hosting some excellent well-attended events while here (including the first event that I ever attended), Emily was an integral part in getting our local caching organization started several years ago. Before I set off for my own move to the west coast in 2010, she placed a “Good Luck” tribute cache for me near our hometown, as a way of wishing me well in my travels. This gesture meant a lot to me and shows the kind nature of her spirit. Here’s to emilierene!!!

  • justjenni

After the HMGT weekend…Spongebob gets my vote! Fun, informative, very well done trail, and the events associated were superb!
