January Featured Geocacher of the Month Nominees – Add Your Comments

January’s featured nominees are fabulous examples of uniquely talented geocachers. Though many other qualified candidates were nominated, Groundspeak Lackeys selected these three helpful, innovative, and creative nominees.  Now it’s your turn to help select one of them as January’s featured “Geocacher of the Month.”

AbbeyAckbar, December Featured Geocacher of the Month

Write a comment on this blog post about which of these three geocachers you feel should be the featured “Geocacher of the Month.” Those whose nominees were not recognized here are encouraged to submit their nominations again next month.

Last month, AbbeyAckbar was chosen as the December Featured Geocacher of the Month. AbbeyAckbar, a geocaching couple, was recognized for organizing some of the most creative and popular events in Dublin, Ireland. They were also acknowledged for their consistent willingness to assist geocachers in need. Congratulations again to AbbeyAckbar and all other December nominees.

Here are your nominees for the January Featured Geocacher of the Month. Some testimonials have been edited for length.

Bloodhounded

Bloodhounded

Nominated by BigAI437, “Kevin has not only started the geocaching blog, Cachecrazy.com, that reaches international geocachers, but he is constantly getting involved with the local community. Recently he set up a geocaching day for a group of local Girl Scouts. He took them out to find some caches after teaching them all about geocaching. Kevin made sure that these young girls had lots of fun and learned about a new sport that is not only fun, but takes you to places that you might have never visited. I am totally inspired by his commitment to geocaching, the geocaching community, and to his local community.”

SerenityNow

SerenityNow

Nominated by TeamDotOne, “SerenityNow is responsible for the largest annual events in Ohio known affectionately as the Grand Caching Events (GCE). An example of one of these events is CSI: Cleveland.  Not only do to they go way out of their way to host the best events ever but they always seem to come up with something new each and every year to make people want to keep coming back. We have spent countless hours enjoying their company, enjoying their events, enjoying their caches and most importantly, enjoying their friendship.”

Memomls

Memomls

Nominated by Horseshoechamp, “Memomls has put on many 101 events and always embraces new cachers with her friendly charm. She is the back bone of North Florida and is known far and wide for her giving- not only her knowledge but her wisdom of caching to all she comes in contact with. Memomls is part owner in a starting Geo-Business here in North Florida called The Cache Station which supplies all sorts of items for both new and old cachers alike. She looks out for many geocachers and willingly hosts events for different people’s accomplishments, even when they are new to geocaching.”

Comment below to tell us who you think should be the featured January “Geocacher of the Month.” A panel of Lackeys will use your comments to help decide which geocacher is awarded the honor. Each featured “Geocacher of the Month” will receive an exclusive special edition featured ”Geocacher of the Month” Geocoin along with a Geocacher of the Month hat and a certificate acknowledging their contributions signed by two of the founders of Geocaching.com. We will be accepting comments for January’s award through Monday February 6th.

SerenityNow – really and truly some of the nicest people you will ever meet.

  • EarthAngel1

Memomls gets my vote – she is a mentor and a cheerleader – to anyone who is just beginning to geocache to the hard core geocacher.  And she is just an overall good person!

  • Josiah

SerenityNow gets a vote from me.  I love pulling my hair out trying to solve their creative puzzle caches.  PEZ almost drove me and my family to the brink of insanity, but we conquered and finally solved it (there was a SHOUT that day!!)SerenityNow deserves to be the cachers of the month because they give back to the Geocaching community at every turn. The Grand caching draws around 300 people.  Which equals one AWESOME day!  These are two COMMITED cachers who have been on the scene since December of 2002 with over 16,000 finds!
    GO SERENITYNOW!!

    Memomls!

  • Rob Alfred

I want to congratulate all three Geocachers for their hard work in this great sport. You all have made a difference in your respective locals. Great job. My vote does go to Bloodhounded though. He is a great example to many folks around here of what Geocaching is all about. If you haven’t met him then you’ve missed out. Get out this way and meet him and see how he can help you get more out of Geocaching. Way to go BH.

  • Mary N Bob Kauffman

Memomls deserves to win this award, her contributions to the geocaching community are so varied and valuable.  She is hostess, creator, supporter, teacher, encourager, builder.  We are so fortunate to have her in the state of Florida helping our geocaching world grow larger and more exciting.

SerenityNow are great people.  Thanks for all you do for caching!!  I can’t wait for the next GCE!!

  • Anonymous

My vote is for SerenityNow ! They put on the most awesome events. Anyone who has ever held even a small event can understand how much work goes into a large themed event, and they start a year ahead working to perfect their plans, so the attendees can have a really great time, and we do!

  • flymananddoc

We vote for serenitynow. I have lost count how many of their geocaches we have done and we haven’t even scratched the surface. They are always well done. When we were very beginners we always knew they would be good ones, not wild goose chases.

  • Kmcdowell12

My vote is for SerenityNow.  My husband and I have spent many hours looking for there caches and have also attended some of their awesome events.  They  deserve the award.

  • Mitchandmikesmom

SerenityNow all the way!  I love their caches.  And although their GCE seem to fall when I am unable to attend, I will get to one someday.  They are a much respected pair of cachers in these parts and deserve the recognition

2trux & candlelady vote for SerenityNow.  Candlelady still remembers the day back in October 2004, when we spent the afternoon caching with them during a LoCo event.  They’ve given much to the caching community.

My vote goes out to Bloodhounded. I’ve had the pleasure of hunting down all of his caches, but more importantly I’ve had the pleasure of hunting with him. He doesnt make geocaching your typical run of the mill day out, he makes geocaching an event. I look to him for help on hiding caches or finding them for that matter and it doesnt matter what time of day, what he may be doing…my texts or calls are always returned asap. A great example of what the geocaching family is all about.

  • Gattamelata3

All three of these nominees sound very deserving. My vote goes to Bloodhounded for involving kids and giving them a healthy hobby to bide their time with. Hopefully it will be one that sticks forever, especially through those trying teenage years! Congrats to all the noms!

  • Dave Smith

I cast my vote for Bloodhounded.  The hard work he puts into each and every one of his hides marvels anything I’ve seen, and his dedication to our youth is remarkable!

  • Joe* and Ed(Dead)

Joe* and Ed(Dead) votes for Serenity Now because GonnieNanny asked me too also because I am from OHIO

I can think of no better couple to receive this award than SerenityNow.  These two have “made” geocaching happen in the NE Ohio region.  With countless hides (which can sometimes drive you crazy….like Hollywood Park) and various sponsored events, they encourage us all to get out and challenge ourselves and enjoy the sport.  As we say in the CLE, SerenityNow you ROCK!!

  • SuzyJazz

    SERENITYNOW gets my vote.
    1. Hospitality- They embrace new and seasoned cachers alike.
    2. Commitment- They host a yearly Grand Caching event with FindingFraggleRock which draws cachers to Ohio from PA, MI, WV, VA and even CANADA!  YES, it is THAT good, cachers drive 100’s of miles for 1 awesome day of caching!  They plan these events a year in advance! That is commitment!
    3. Personable- They host coffee events throughout the year to help bring cachers together in Northeast Ohio.  Typically it is one of the BEST attended coffees of the year.
    4. Challenge- They put out great puzzles, challenge caches, and unique caches. They have always been on the cutting edge of a new type of hide or challenge.
    5. Trustworthy- They are honest, fair and always kind.

My vote goes to SerenityNow. Of all the caching I’ve done, I have yet to match the sheer amount of fun I’ve had at the GCE’s. It takes an amazing amount of work to do what they do, each and every year.

My vote is for SerenityNow! They have placed many caches in the area and they host the best GCE of the year! They are a great couple and a couple of great cachers.

  • Buk-i-in-Diskyz

    Serenity Now
No hanging chads on my ballot next to Serenity Now.  They have contributed so much to the geocaching sport with their events, cache hides, puzzles and hosted meet and greets.  Great people who I am glad to be able to call friends.  I believe they are very deserving of this award.

  • Justin Spott

I vote for Bloodhounded! Most of the first caches I discovered were his… and some of my later, tougher finds also his. His hides are varied difficulty, allowing fun for beginners and veterans alike, and all are creatively done. This of course is small beans compared to the work he does for the local geocaching community.

SerenityNow has my vote!  They have done so much for the geocaching community over the years.  Would be great to honor them with this!

SerenityNow!   The First Caching Couple of Ohio.  Many many moons ago we went to our first geoevent which turned out to be one of theirs. We were welcomed by them like old friends even though we just met.  Years and years later we’ve been attending every one of their Grand Caching Events without fail and I STILL see their genuine warmth when they greet new cachers.  These two are real people who really love this hobby and really care to share their enthusiasm for  it.   Their Grand Caching Events are unrivaled here in the Midwest and possible the states.  Wow they are so much fun and so well organized.  You’d think they get paid for this but they don’t, they do it because they love to geocache and to spread that love. They are truly Ambassadors of Geocaching. ~the hiking viking
